[HELP] Computer Suddenly slow without reason?

I wasn't sure which section to ask about this but I'm baffled as to what to do. I looked up on the issue and possible solutions and I followed them all yet there's no improvement. The last few days my computer is suddenly loading everything really slowly. I've had the computer for less than a year and it was custom build by a company, thus far I've had zero issues with it. Keep in mind that I'm on the computer for many hours every day so the wear will be more that of a 3 year old computer in usage.

How it started:

I was working on designing a website while Guild Wars 2 and some other programs were running in the background (which it doesn't normally have issues with). I closed the website/design editing programs and suddenly my computer started loading things really really slowly. Since then my computer has been running slow, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Things I've tried:

- First thing I checked was the internet which I quickly ruled out. I did a test on speedtest.net which came out fine and others on the same network do not experience issues. I also have full bars on my connection indicator and it didn't explain how all programs were taking ages to load not just internet things. (Even things like Windows Explorer)

- I restarted the computer as I figured maybe this will help stop whatever was causing the issue this didn't help at all

- I checked temperature of the hardware to make sure it wasn't an overheating problem, I have a fairly open case with many fans. I took this picture of Speccy just now, After having already been on the computer a while and just trying to play Guild Wars 2 again:

- I ran virus and malware scans using several programs, found minor things like cookies which were removed which didn't fix the problem.

- Checked for suspicious processes running and closed any unimportant ones/stopped them from loading

- I used registry cleaners and defragged the hard drive, neither of which improved anything

- I ran Chkdsk thing to check for hard drive problems it found no issues with it at all (Also my hard drive isn't full).

- My ram/memory usage seems fine as well:

- I've opened my computer case, there was some dust but not enough to warrant the issue as I had recently cleaned it out (about 3 weeks ago), I did clean it out a bit more just in case. I also saw no loose wires or physical damages of any kind.

- Tried various other tests of various hardware components that all came out fine.

- I updated my graphics card driver etc. etc.

I just can't figure out what the problem is. The only thing I haven't tried yet is re-installing windows but I get the feeling it's not a software related issue yet I can't find hardware related issues either.

Description of the problem:

So to describe what's happening, When I open a program it can take a couple of minutes or more to load. The strange thing is it seems to vary. It will still be slow but load reasonably fast at times and then at other times for some reason my computer will slow down significantly again.

As I mentioned I play a lot of Guild Wars 2. To describe the problem in that context, I can normally play on the highest setting and everything loads fast. Now loading screens take 5-10 minutes.

While on low settings I run with my character in game and after a bit the sound suddenly goes quiet. The area is loaded for me but I don't see some details as they take a while to load. Then suddenly sounds will catch up in one go as well as some of the animations.

It seems that once the animations or sounds have loaded they load more quickly next time however. I don't seem to experience any freezing as such except for when a lot of new information is suddenly thrown at me, just things take forever to load around me. Turning the camera can be stuttering as well. UI elements, backgrounds and such take a long time to load.

Another example I tried to open solitaire during one of the slow moments it took about 3 minutes to load the 'Games' window and another 5 minutes to load solitaire same with Windows Explorer or other programs take so long at times to load.

Yet I can't find any problems with the hardware, nothing to indicate there is an issue other than the slow loading. I was hoping someone here has some suggestions as to what could be causing it and suggest ways I could confirm the problem so I can either replace faulty hardware or somehow fix the problem. I have a suspicion it might be the hard disk but none of the tests come up with anything and I feel reluctant to spend money on a new one if I'm not even sure if that's what is causing the problem.

Nobody has a clue what it could be? I'm leaning towards either hard drive or graphics card but I'm not sure nor do tests I've tried shown any issues.

Is it your computer that is running slow or just the game? If it is the game, try reinstalling it. If it is Windows, trying running the system file checker.

As I mentioned, It's all of my computer. Any program I open is slow. I was using the game as a more detailed description of what happens visually. I'm in the progress of going to reinstall windows in a minute in the hope it will fix it. I already ran the system file checker.

I would check your SMART data. Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors, as well as the UDMA CRC Error count.

HD Sentinel (DOS / Windows / Linux):
http://www.hdsentinel.com/

HDDScan for Windows:
http://hddscan.com/

See this article for SMART info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.

Could you also post a HD Tune read benchmark graph? That will tell us if the drive is stumbling on "weak" sectors.
February 22, 2013 8:26:42 PM

Well looks like re-installing Windows and removing 300gb+ of data that was previously on my computer seems to have done the trick. I'm guessing it was to do with some sort of corrupt data or harddrive not functioning even though it wasn't near full capacity and neither problem was detected by the many scans I did... Odd. Anyway, I'm just so happy it's working again!

Check the Reallocated Sector Count. The reinstallation process may have forced any bad sectors to be replaced with spares.

I suspect that the original problem may have been due to Windows switching to PIO mode after experiencing an excessive number of read errors. A HD Tune read benchmark would have shown this, ie the performance graph would have been a flat line. By reinstalling Windows, you would have reset the PIO/DMA settings in your registry.

In short, I suspect that your problems may resurface.

I did the scan twice no bad sectors. I also checked for POI/DMA settings and it was DMA. Which is why I was confused as nothing came up to say it was a hard disk problem.

A surface scan won't detect those sectors that have been reallocated. "Weak" sectors that require several read retries also won't be reported. You need to examine the SMART record.

Seems like I've jumped the gun as the lag has come back   after it running smoothly for about a day. So I went and did the hddscan and hdtune benchmark thing here is the results:

I have the same problem . What is extremely strange is that even if i restart / close my pc for 1 min the problem seems to remain. It stops after 1-2 minutes , some times it persists for more. It makes no sence at all, its like everything slow down . I have windows 8, a capable pc ( ssd, 6 core cpu,8gb ram ) and i dont even run anything intense when it happens.
