Well i was looking around and saw the 1gb 6870 sapphire card and decided its time for and upgrade lol,

this is what i got now

cpu amd phenom 2 x2 550 black edition overclocked to 3.82ghz
memeory is 4gb of ddr2 1066mhz
gpu is a 4850 xfx 1gb
motherboard is ga ma 790x ud4p
psu is corsair 550w

now i do want to get the 6870 card but will my cpu bottleneck it? And since i was thinking about the gpu i thought about getting the amd 6 core as well hehe and would i need a bigger psu if i upgrade to a better cpu and gpu? thanks

You should be fine. While only a dual core, the CPU is pretty fast as is. Hex core CPUs are a waste of money (and likely aren't supported by the motherboard).

Your PSU is certainly capable of handling the 6870 and a better CPU (not that you need it).

I would start to consider a new build when you need to start looking at new CPUs. DDR2 (and the AM2 socket) is very old and not worth plugging any more money into. Start looking at a good AM3/8xx chipset board (the ASRock 870 Extreme 3 and Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 are excellent, cheaper options), an X4 955 and some good sticks of 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 DDR3. All of that will run around $350 right now.
