Hey guys just bought a amd 955 be cpu that came with a stock cooler and just doesn't seem up to the job. When running games even momentarily, watch you-tube video's and sometimes even word processing temps reach high 40's high 50's and the noise is grating at the very least. Anyhow looking for a replacement heat-sink, but have no idea what can fit on my mobo or what is considered a efficient/quiet one, any advice would be appreciated, particularly what will fit on my microatx mobo cheers.

mobo-Asus M4A88T-M USB3
Cpu-Phenom X4 955 AM3 Processor
GPU-HIS HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
Ram-PATRIOT 4GB DDR3 1333 Memory

The CM Hyper 212+ is the most recommended cooler here at Tom's.
It offers great performance for the price.
It will fit your mobo no doubt and is compatible with a wide variety of ram kits.
The big question is will it fit?
What case do you have?

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - £18.74inc. vat

It will just fit imo according to users with a case with the same width as yours.

Hey guys, just installed my new coolmaster and I'm pretty impressed at the minute. Bit of a pain installing it but nothing to tricky, running almost silently compared to the stock cooler and a little cooler, so cheers for all the help!

No problem mate enjoy!:)
You can easily monitor your temps by using CoreTemp or Realtemp or both.
They are small apps and freeware.
