I have an old laptop drive that I wish to use as an external drive. I have it enclosed in a SATA bridge device so it will plug into the desktop usb port. When I plug it up however the drive does not show up in my computer. How do I get it to show up. all there is is the letter F. But it is shaded out and I can't click on it. What do I do?

You may need to format the drive from the Disk Management program.

Also does the drive have sufficient power? this may also be the reason why.

remove it from the caddy and connect it directly to your motherboard - do you get the same result?

if Yes, then it's either a power issue or the caddy needs drivers or the caddy is bad
