Do I need to upgrade my GPU?

I currently have a 9600gt OC edition. I have a lot of the newer PC games(GTA IV, Fallout 3, Dragon age and Starcraft II) and am planning on getting the newer ones as they come out. Given my system specs, can you recommend anything?-

MA785GM-US2H Gigabyte mobo
AMD 435 X3 OC to 3.2ghz
4gb patriot 800mhz ram OC to 880mhz
current graphic card-9600gt OC edition
450W PSU
Windows 7 Professional 64bit

More about upgrade
  1. Depends on your budget mate, as the GPU could be upgraded fairly cheaply and worthwhile.

I believe your system is capible of playing all the latest games (with an upgraded GPU) fine.

How do i know? As ive just given my old mans old man my old computer just before i upgraded and he plays all the latest games with ease (is an old AMD Athlon X2 4200+. 4gb DDR2 800Mhz Ram with an Nvidia GTX 465 GPU)
  2. The highest performing card I would recommend is a HD 5850 if you have a good quality PSU. If it is "generic", then my recommendation would be a HD 5770.

I believe the GTX 470 is equivalent to the HD 5850. But it consumes about 195w of power compared to about 125w of the HD 5850. I wouldn't recommend anything less than a good quality 500w for that.

The GTS 450 is the equivalent to the HD 5770. The limited reviews I've seen also indicates that it uses more power than the HD 5770, but can still be powered by a generic 450w PSU.
  3. What Power Supply do you have?
  4. Seasonic S12 550 550w.

Seasonic is one of the best, if not the best PSU manufacturer. They also make some PSUs models sold under other brand names like Cosair, Antec, PC Power & Cooling and new to the PSU game, XFX.
  5. I meant the OP =)
  6. With that PSU I say go with a 5770. Since you're currently running an overclocked 9600GT it should be able to handle a 5770 just fine. While a GTX 460 would be better it's impossible to even consider without knowing what specific PSU you have.
  7. I would go for a 5770, quite a big upgrade, as 9600GT->9800GT->9800GTX/GTS 250->5770.
Even if the 9600GT's OC brings it to the 9800GT's level it would still be a solid 35%+ upgrade.
