What OS? What bit 32 or 64-bit? Otherwise select your OS and 32 or 64-bit. Better NOT to use 32-bit Intel drivers on a 64-bit OS.

There's no R3E specific drivers, just like there's no OS specific to R3E.

IF YOU'RE NOT SURE - "Run Intel Driver Update Utility" I prefer to select the Driver(s) myself ;)

Run the iata_enu_10.6.0.1022.exe and reboot. If you have SATA = AHCI or RAID then make certain the Start values = 0 in the BIOS.

Simplest is to run 'Fix It. - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV
Check registry, use REGEDIT:

IF YOU'RE NOT SURE - "Run Intel Driver Update Utility"

1. Open this Intel site -> http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?lang=eng
2. Click on the "Run Intel Driver Update Utility" in the banner and as shown below.

It will take you to -> http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

3. Click on the "Check your system for the latest updates" and follow the instructions.

Beyond that I don't know what else to tell you.

Your R3E uses Marvel 9128 (88SE9128 (PCIe ×1 to 2 SATA 6 Gb/s ports RAID controller)).

Latest per your ASUS Rampage III is 2/29/2010 {Marvell 912x Controller Driver V1.0.0.1036} - http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1366/Ramp...

Unfortunately, Marvell doesn't list the driver for download - http://www.marvell.com/support/downloads/search.do

However, Rampage III Black Edition lists 12/29/2010 Marvell Controller Driver V1.0.0.1045 - http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1366/Ramp...

--

I would have no problem using the Rampage III Black Edition, it uses the same Marvell 9128 controller. It's also worth the short from P8Z68 DELUXE, the worst that will happen is the installer will not allow the Driver to be installed.

Further, in the Device Manager you can right-click and attempt Update Driver it may download and install the latest (WHQL) from Microsoft and maybe not.

The latest version I know of is 5/26/2011 Marvell SATA 6G Driver V1.2.0.1002 for Windows Vista/7 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)

It is listed for download for the ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE which also uses the Marvell 9128 - http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z6...

Hello again Jaquith

My Asus Rampage III Extreme came with two Sata III Marvell seems to me these are kind of slow if so is it because these things don't run the latest drivers ( I'm 100% percent i have these set up properly in the BIOS System )

Perhaps if i purchase a Raid Card will make these SATA Marvell III ( 6gps ) fully functional, faster transfer, reading and writing?

And finally do you recommend buying a Raid Card?

Thank you for all the advice.

The Marvell 912x use a 'shared' PCIe x1 lane (theoretical 500MB/s) in practice (reality) 360MB/s ~ 380MB/s so if you have a 500MB/s R/W SSD e.g. OCZ Vertex 3 then you need something faster e.g. Marvell 918x which uses x2 PCIe lanes.

Sure I 'can' recommend a Dedicated SATA3/RAID Card, but in reality it's cheaper to get a new Marvell 918x {88SE9182} MOBO. The x4 PCIe SATA3 RAID Cards cost more than your MOBO!

Examples:
GA-X58A-OC (rev. 1.0) - http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3...
G1.Guerrilla (rev. 1.0) - http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3...
G1.Sniper (rev. 1.0) - http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3...
G1.Assassin (rev. 1.0) - http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3...

Q - What EXACT SSD's do you have? ; I prefer a link.

My Kingston Hyper X SSD runs slow using the Marvell 6gps...?

Maybe replacing my mobo...would make a difference or perhaps i just need to go back to SATA II?

Here's the simple, though it be complex, answer:
1. Not ALL RAID Cards are 'bootable', and then those that are MUST be compatible with the R3E.
2. Good RAID Cards cost more than your R3E MOBO.
3. The Marvell 9128 on your MOBO, as I said, is going to max-out 360MB/s ~ 380MB/s

Most Speed tests are using the Maximum R/W speeds from ATTO, but in reality other than specific R/W Files and Sizes you very rarely will hit the tippy-top speeds.

Try ATTO Benchmark - http://www.attotech.com/products/product.php?sku=Disk_B... ; this is the publisher's (real) website. It does require sign-up, so use some 'garbage email' account though I haven't had spam from them.

Otherwise I've seen the LSI MegaRAID SATA/SAS 9260-8i on ASUS X58 work fine - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... then add a battery backup.

Other possibilities, but I have zero experience with are, but contact LSI for pre sales verification - http://www.lsi.com/support/Pages/call-us.aspx
LSI Internal SATA/SAS 9211-8i - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
LSI MegaRAID SATA/SAS 9260-4i - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Hello again,

Sometimes my work requires to handle large Photo and Video files. What is the most reliable RAID set up?

Assuming i have the raid controller card with 512 cache built in on the ASUS X58?

How about without the Raid controller card on the ASUS X58?

As always your feedback is much appreciated.

Hello Jaquith,

I would like to update the firmware on the LSI MegaRAID SATA/SAS 9260-4i 6Gb/s without the use of the web console?

Thanks again
