What does "not much into gaming" mean? The only reason to get a GTS 450 or a 5770 is for gaming.

Likewise, a TP-550 is not the best choice for a non-gaming rig.

You would be better off saving some on those two items and getting a larger SSD:

What resolution monitor?

Are you planning to overclock?

Its a bit overkill for a "non-gaming" build but I did a one anyways.

For basic things a cheaper AMD quad core build with on-board video would do just fine.

"not much into gaming" - means I always thinkI may play some games, but in reality I will probably stick to my Xbox 360 for that. Call of Duty, Madden and Gears of War for me. I just want a killer system that will handle anything I throw at it for a long time.

I am going to hold off on the Monitor for now, but eventually get a big high-res one. I do plan to overclock as well - again, may not be necessary, but I figure what the heck.

Why no TP550? Is it just overkill, should i go with fewer watts? This is so confusing, there are just so many darn choices!!!!

Thank you for the advice....

There's no such thing as futureproofing. If I were in your situation I would get an AMD quad based build with a 6850 then keep the rest of the money for an upgrade later.

SP - why a 6850? Is a $200 gpu overkill if I am not gaming?

I thought you mentioned light gaming. And don't pay more than 180$ for one.

What about the GTS450 for $82? Is the 6850 that much better?

. Customization of your system, more hard core players = harder challenge. More control For example: like in cod you can lean left and right, 1 button to stay in a scope, 1 button that is only scoped till you let go.
Only disadvantage is if you can't afford a good pc, and you can't have fiends come over and sit on the couch and play a game. Unless they also have a pc to game with.
