Looking to pop my IT cherry (i guess you'd call this)and install http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na&AID=10521304&PID=4176827&SID=c39yduwm7wt] on my FX6800-01e there is already 3x 1GB DDR3 1066MHz 240-pin on the motherboard (gateway TBGM01) would I be able to add the 3x 2GB into the 2nd triple channel slots and run it like that? Probably should have done this years ago when I first bought it but can't really pursue my IT intrests in my current job

Solution
To run in triple channel you will either have to have 3 or 6 slots populated. Maybe 3x4GB and leave the 1GB ones out or sell them.

yes they are both 1.5v,
Would it be better to get a 8GB 2x4GB dual set instead to make max 12 gb for my motherboard?

A single DIMM can be "single-sided" or "double-sided". They may be referring to 8GB DIMMs that are double-sided.

That doesn't correlate with the term "kit", however.

It's quite possible that the Crucial site got it wrong (suggesting a two DIMM kit for a three DIMM channel - that's simply wrong). Remember that not everything on the internet is correct :)
