Hello, I currently have a AMD Phenom II x2 555 Processor and I'm trying to decide whether its worth updating to AMD Phenom x 4 945 / 960 or AMD Phenom x 6 1045T/1055T. Its just a case of cost against performance increase. I have a GF8100VM MB, 4 Gig DDR2 Ram, GTX460 GPU, 800W PSU if thats any help. Appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

If you are mostly gaming then that would not be a good upgrade. If multitasking then it is a good upgrade.

According to the ECS website, your motherboard can only handle 95W cpus. So, you upgrade options are limited.

A better route would be to buy an new am3 motherboard and ddr3 ram and try unlocking the X2 555 cpu. I just built a system where I unlocked a 555 to 4 cores and had it stable at 3.8Ghz @1.45V The chip being able to be unlock is not guaranteed, but there's a very good chance it can. The Biostar 880G+ motherboard I used and 4gb ddr3 ram would cost you about $100.
