Need help with AMD gaming build

Hey everyone!

I've been forced into game when my mobo went kaput.
Currently I've got the following I'll be using as I already have them here on hand:
Case: Thermaltake Armor II full tower
PSU: Corsair HX850w
CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 740BE
GPU: Powercolor Raedon HD 5850 OC

As the title says I'm a gamer, playing FPS(Crysis, fallout new Vegas) and RTS (SC2, Civ V, C&C).
I'm looking at a soft budget of $400 & will be using newegg. If the deal is good I'm willing to do it now but I can wait for the black sales, but not too long as I'm in withdrawals. ;-)

I need:
Motherboard: something that will unlock and or OC my 740BE, as well as be upgradeable down the line. USB 3 and SATA 3 would be nice, also features like charging my iPhone while off

RAM: something that will work with my current combo but won't limit me when upgrading down the line. Preferably 2 x 2GB.

Monitor: something that does 1920x1080 well and it at least 23 widescreen.

I appreciate the help!

Thanks Siva,

Is the 5ms really noticeable in games?

Also have you had any luck unlocking the cores with the ASUS, or just OC well?

Thanks!

Thanks Bat,

I forgot to mention I already have the HDD, Optical Drives, and HSF... so I won't need them!

Just as I asked Siva, is the 5ms noticeable in the games or would going with a lower response help?

Also same question about the mobo, had any success with the unlock of the cores, or if not, how was the OC with the board?

Thanks!

OH lol I didn't see that, I thought he meant he was getting those.

Thanks for the info on the monitor! I wasn't sure if it mattered or not.

As for the unlock, not saying it was certainty, just nice to have the ability.
My main concern regardless of the unlock is the OC ability. Stability being the key of course! Just looking for a few decimals of MHz is all.

Thanks for the link! I appreciate the info. I take it you were successful with your attempt.
Was 3.9 your stability point or you just didn't need to push further? Any info of your OC experience would be appreciated!

Yup. Since I don't have a working PC right now my iPhone is how I'm able answer your response to my post.
Have anything useful to share to the discussion?

Triple post.... Haha, Umm OC after unlock definatly will not be achieved if you plan to do it on your stock cooler, But judging by the build I'm assuming you have a non-stock hsf right? The highest OC I've seen with the Triple core unlock is up to 3.6-3.8 area. IMO.

Umm if you were refering to me. I didn't unlock though, and my stock clock is higher than the 740. Also CPU grade contributes to the OC as well. For instance, I had super low temps even at 1.49v at 3.9 but my stability was pretty sketchy, It was stable, but not 100% more like 99% since folding was an issue, however Prime95 was not. So it is also relative to how good your CPU is in the sense of stepping and just quality.

Yeah sorry about that it's difficult with big fingers (mostly thumbs) to type on my iPhone keyboard.
It takes me ages! Anyways I have a scythe mugen 2 for hat as the 740 be is oem.

Ok, from bat's post it looked like you were unlocking a 555 to 955.
Knew you had higher stock clock but for some reason thought they were .1 MHz higher from what I've read, so I was just wondering if it was stability that stopped you.

Sorry misread the other post then. So what would you recommend for my 740be as far as mobo & memory?

Well... as far as memory I recommend Mushkin, mainly because of good experience and great pricing.

Mushkin enhanced: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

As for mobo I recommend this if you don't plan to Crossfire. Has USB 3 SATA 6 and the UCC (Or Asrock's unlock core solution).

If you plan to crossfire, it's this model, used to be only 89.99$ but now its 100$ =P

Thanks guys!
I've got some research to do and time to wait for the black day sales ahead of me!
I really appreciate the recommendations!
Once I figure out and find out what, if any sales drop I'll let you know...
If there are any other suggestions let me know, I'll be lurking around here!
