Hi. I'm not a big PC gamer and therefore my knowledge on the subject is limited but I really would like to play Civilization 5, unfortunately my computer and my graphics card aren't that great. Almost all of my specs pass recommended though but my graphics card GeForce 7800 GTX doesn't even pass minimum. I tried out the demo and it was very laggy unless the settings were low and it did crash twice. I don't have the money to spend on a brand new computer but I was thinking about perhaps getting one of the cheaper graphics cards above recommended with ATI HD 4850 (512 mb) in mind. Someone suggested HD5670 to me as it unlike 4850 had DX11 and was the better choice, although it would be slower. I don't really need uber high settings, but I do want them in the medium to high range (pref in 1680 x 1050 res since I'm using a 22 inch monitor) so it can look nice but also run smoothly. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums
5670 has newer techs such as DX11 but its significantly slower than 4850 in terms of performance,so definitely go with 4850.

Or you can go with GTS250, that's a little better than HD4850... :)

Actually the difference is almost negligible.Get the one which is more readily available and cheaper among the 4850 and GTS 250.

Thanks for the advices. I was thinking about perhaps getting the ATI HD5750 with both the speed and DX11. Is DX11 worth the extra bucks? Is it just graphics or performance as well? Civ 5 is apparently a DX11 game.

Yes, it's worth the extra bucks for that card... :)
Just make sure you have enough power on your PSU.

My PSU has around 400W it seems, both 4850 and 5750 has 450W as the recommended. Would it still work with a 400W PSU?

It depends...What brand is your PSU and how much is it's 12v rail?

Don't worry much about DX11, there are few games that benefit from it.
5750 performs pretty much like a 4850, but runs cooler, quieter and has less power consumption. So if the price difference isn't much,go for it.
