Hey

My friend wants to sell me a e6400 and i currently have a e4600 (intel core2duo)

I looked it up and it seems that 4600 has a higher frequency (2.4) but a lower fsb/multiplier. Could someone explain these two and if buying the 6400 is worth it. I do some gaming like mw2 :D.

Also i cant find specs on my motherboard, but here are my computer specs so if someone can help it would be appreciated. I bought a e7200 and apperently my mobo doesnt support it, so can you tell me if it can support e6400

Original Computer specs: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009502/1009502nv.shtml

MY COMPUTER/BIOS ARE LOCKED SO I CANT OVERCLOCK OR CHANGE BIOS SETTINGS !!!

Your link for the Gateway site is broken and without the model I can't verify anything.

But the best info is here:

http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=32242,27249,

The E6400 you have has a 1066MHz FSB while the E4600 has a 800MHz FSB, so in everything but base clock, the E6400 is better.

But get me your PCs model number and I will see what you can do.

I have to agree. If that is the right model then the mobo would be the same. Normally a model for a OEM like Gateway/Dell tends to have one mobo with a few CPU, memory or other choices.

in your case then, switching CPUs would yeild no benefit since they are both from the same family (Arrandale/Conroe). In reality if you want a performance boost, you will probably have to get a new PC since that one probably only supports the low end of the Core 2 Duos, which includes the E6X00 series.
