wouldn't it be great if they'd redo the 600X with new processor, USB 2.0,
big disk, etc. etc? what a keyboard that machine has.

I liked the 600X too. Still have one that I use occasionally.

Actually, my sick twisted dream is to cut and wrap a custom
motherboard for the 701 that would bring it up to modern specs while
keeping it looking stock. A butterfly with low-voltage P4, Cardbus
slots, SVGA 10.4" display, 100GB drive, 1GB RAM all in a 10 year old
package. Never happen, but it would be cool...

While the 701 was amazing in its day, I really do think the X40 is a
nicer machine as well as being smaller, and the X40 keyboard is at
least as good.

True, but you can't beat the gee-whiz quotient of the articulating keyboard
on the 701!

If you are going for keyboard/build quality, the X31, albeit a little
bigger, is much better than the X40. Then again, they are all miles
below the best laptop ever made on this planet, also know as 600X.

I'm using one right now. The keyboard seems to be the same as on my 570,
but the 570 has more than one different problem with the display, plus one
of the hinges is cracking, which is why I bought the 600X.
