Using 2 sound cards i windows 7 desktop

You *can*, but ONLY if one of the programs you want to use allows you to manually select a sound output other then the output set as the Windows default.

EG: You can set your default output device as "Soundcard1", and set Windows Media Player to use "Soundcard2".

This is true and can work, but the results for some apps can "confuse" your results. Still really a matter of understanding what the OP is trying to do. Gamerk316 is right, however, from a technical standpoint. There are also professional audio apps that can take advantage of multiple sound devices, but once again that begs the question of what....
