Noob in need of opinions and advice! :D

Hey guys i need some help with my upgrade, Ok what would you guys suggest? this is the motherboard i will be getting, http://www.gigabyte.com/products/p [...] id=3449#sp

i have a choice of using of GeIL® BLACK DRAGON Series - DDR3-2000MHz, 4GB (2GBx2) CAS 9-9-9,1.65V, 8 Layers PCB with LED. Which is quite expensive for only 4GB.

OR

Transcend® JetRam™ High-Performance 2GB DDR3-1333 240-Pin Module : CL9, 6-Layer. (X4) which equals to 8GB of ram for more or less the same price as the Geil Black Dragon Series.

Im kinda leaning towards the Transcend since its 8GB instead of 4GB Although the Geil's MHz are a lot more. What do you guys think? If you guys want to suggest any other memory feel free to do so! Thanks a lot guys i really appreciate the help.

And then i also need help with getting the right PSU for the system, i will be running the following in the complete system,

Intel® Core™ i7 930 - 2.80GHz Quad Core, Socket 1366, 8MB L3, 4.8GT/s QPI, 45nm. (link) http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=41447

N275GTX Lightning Graphics Card. (link) http://www.msi.com/index.php?func= [...] od_no=1887 I am currently using this card and won't be upgrading. (happy with its performance for now)

I am currently using ODIN GT 550W PSU. (link) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/p [...] id=2492#sp Will i be able to use this PSU or would you guys suggest getting a bigger one? If so, which PSU would you guys recommend?

Thanks for the help guys.

Much appreciated! :bounce:

The Geil ha a WAY biger MHZ, so go for it! also, remember that a 32 bit OS can only use 3.25 gb RAM! the PSU shld be fine, but i wouldnt suggest OCing ur rig till u get a bigger one!
Good luck!

First,if you will be running an i7 930 you will need triple channel ram. That means either 3x1,3x2 or 3x4GB of ram.So you can't get the black dragons as they're 4gb and for the transcend ram you would need to buy 3 and not 4 kits which equals 6gb.Now,as for their quality the transcend ram should be fine but I wouldn't eexpect an oc of it.For the psu since it is going to be an expnsive system I would advise against using that psu and you should instead get a quality 650w psu from either corsair, xfx, antec or seasonic.I would get,if you'reon a low budget the antec earthwatts 750w or if you're looking for quality and modularity, the antec tp 650w.

Ah ok that makes sense! I will be getting 3 kits of transcend then. And as for the PSU i think i should go with the antec 750w due to budget problems ^_^ thanks for the advice guys. Really appreciate it!

AFAIK, you CAN run triple channnel RAM, but don't HAVE to. Atleast thats how it worked for dual channel but I might be behind the times.

Anyways, don't bother getting more than 4GB of RAM (6GB if you're getting a triple channel kit so u can get 2x3GB). You won't ever be able to utilise more than that. Also, try to install a 64bit OS if possible.

And as stated above, try to get a 750W or more PSU. My personal reccomendation would be Corsair.

Thanks, xbones! I will be installing a 64bit OS so i think ill be going with the 2GBx3 Transcend ram which is actualy pretty cheap. And thanks for the heads up with the PSU ill def get a 750W. :)
