For video edit/rendering I'd go AMD hexacore... gives you some more cores... also don't get the 930, it is like 20$ difference between 950, and 930, owrth it, IMHO...

i will b going for the 950, but what i was truly curious about was if i should go for a xeon processor/quadro gpu and get more ram?

the work ill be doing is semi profssional

The Xeon/Quadro combo would probably end up being better than the 950 build, depending on the Xeon and Quadro you are talking about.

i cant remember which processor it was, but i believe the video card was a quadro 580 which i understand to be an older card from the quadro line

lets say i was sticking to this build, would 3gb of ram cut it? or should i get more?

not for Rendering... 6 at least

ok so this is an option for a xeon based computer

Intel Xeon W3550 Processor (3.06GHz 1066MHz 8MB L2) - 130W
6GB ECC DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (2GBx3 uDIMMS)
NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (2GB Dual link DVI+DP+DP Stereo 3D)
128GB SATA 1.8" MLC Solid State Drive X 1
1TB SATA 3.5" Hard Drive - 7200 rpm X 2
Lenovo 16x DVD +/- RW Dual Layer (Windows 7)

and the i7 950 computer would be

Intel Core i7-950 Processor
VG679AA HP 64-GB Solid State Drive
1TB SATA 3.5" Hard Drive - 7200 rpm
12GB (3x4GB) PC3-10600 DDR3 1333
Gainward GTX 470 PCI-e 1280 320bit D/DVI HDMI GDDR5
LG 62N/LITE-ON DH-20A3S DVD-RW

which would be the better buy?

errrr probably the Xeon, the i7 does have more ram though... so it wouldn't have to page as much...

putting in mind im doing rather basic tasks with said programs and nothing too fancy...
