The pc froze and the gtx 480 died why

i was listening music and browsing when my pc froze and gave me some weird whistling noise reboot it and the same thing happen after 3 min reboot again and it was ok for awhile .next morning i started the comp end tried to print some stuff when it froze again and would not reboot my x58 was giving me 7f code changed the graphic gtx480 and it works fine.why did my 3 weeks old gxt 480 died???
