Need opinion on newbie build for video edting/graphics

Hello all,

I'd like to get some feedback on the following build for video editing and graphics using Adobe Premiere CS3 and After Effects CS4:

i7 870 - INTEL CORE i7 2.93GH
Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 MB
Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C7 4GB
3x 3.5 CAVIAR BLACK, 500GB, 7200RPM, 32MB, SATA II
GEFORCE GTX460/1GBGDDR5/715MHz
COOLER MASTER CENTURION 5 II BLK w/500W PSU

My budget is limited and I'm trying to get the most for my money. All thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I wouldn't suggest those HDD's because of their price, it's just a 5$ difference, but umm the Caviar blacks are also Slower than the Samsung F3's since the platter size is smaller than the F3's.

    Samsung F3 500gb 55$: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181&Tpk=F3%20500gb

So you basically save 15$ total and gain a faster drive.

Great graphics choice since Premiere uses the Mercury engine you'll gain a boost from the Cuda Cores, and all is good, CM PSU's aren't great but they aren't bad but I wouldn't trust that PSU. Could you link the case and PSU?

Thanks for the advice regarding the Samsung drives. I had looked at them but wasn't sure. I'll change them out.

As for the case, I could change it, or at least the PSU. What are the issues with it? Maybe that will help me decide.
  3. Umm Case-wise, it's a good case.... but the PSU might not be able to power the CPU and card your using when they are both on load. For instance I use PS5 and Premiere 5 and it is really CPU intensive, so sometimes you got to know if the PSU can power it. I mean the PSU might be a OEM one or a PSU from Cooler Master. So could you provide a link to the case?

The case is being delivered today. Here is the link to where I bought it:

Here is the manufacturers link: http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?category_id=19&product_id=2985

I suspect that the PSU is not actually a CoolerMaster PSU, which of course make your comments regarding the PSU more relevant. I'm about to put it all together; what would you suggest is the best way to monitor the PSU to determine if it will meet my needs? If it doesn't, what PSU would you recommend?

    Thanks for your help!
  5. Well, I recommend a 550-700w non OEM psu. At least 80+ certified. I mean I live in the US so prices are much more different. Since in the AU stuff is more expensive.

    Pretty pricey :P

    OR http://www.megabuy.com.au/corsair-550w-corsair-vx-550-atx-power-supply-80-plus-p62192.html

    Umm case wise http://www.megabuy.com.au/antec-three-hundred-black-mid-tower-gaming-case-the-p65637.html

Yeah, I'm originally from the U.S. and have lived in several different countries...nobody does pricing like the U.S. It kills me when I buy things because I know it's cheaper back home! And with Black Friday coming up...wow, I miss home!

Thanks for the advice. As I said the CoolerMaster case and 500W PSU has shipped so I'm stuck with it for now. I'll keep an eye on the PSU performance and upgrade if necessary, otherwise when I can afford it!
  7. Alrighty! Good luck!
