Suggestions for CPU Upgrade

Last response: in CPUs

Hello,

I have a Pentium D 830 3.0 and Im looking to upgrade to a modern faster processor. Its in a Socket 775 slot.

The computer is used for audio recording, I use Cakewalk Sonar X1 which recommends a Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.67 GHz or AMD Phenom Quad Core 9750 2.4 Ghz.

Id be curious to see how my current processor benchmarks against the recommended processor, and if anyone on this forum would recommend a processor they feel would make the system top notch.

Im running Windows 7 Home w/6G Ram.

Thanks!

Still don't see your board model number. Have you checked under "cpu support" on your board website? Early 775 boards won't run any core2 duos, and some won't run wolfdale's.

Thanks SAAIELLO,

so is the E8200 considered my top choice for upgrade with the socket 775 slot? considering my motherboard can handle it?

thanks!

Like two others pointed out we need you motherboards model number to figure out your options. The socket 775 has quad core options the best being a QX9770 which will be way to expensive the best all around Quad for the socket 775 is Q9550, but most likely your board will not support it.
