Video-editing / rendering build

ok, i have £450 for the mobo, case, psu, cpu and ram. i want it to be able to handle cinema 4d, and after effects well, and render in decent time. i like nice looking things, so will get a 6750 in the near future (probably) if i feel like it :D  now. tell me what to get :)

in order of uses: video editing, 3d rendering, surfing web, schoolwork

no xfire etc

I usually go Intel, but based on the OP's video editing use I would say a Phenom II X6 is in order since that kind of work scales with the number of processor cores.

If £450 is just for case, psu, cpu, ram, and mobo, then how about this:

Phenom II X6 1090T £154 £181
Corsair VX450 £50 £59
4GB G.Skill Ripjaw RAM £52 £61
Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 £66 £77
Coolermaster HAF912 £59 £62

Total £381 excluding VAT

Total £440 including VAT

You may want to cut back on the case and add another 4GB RAM. I do some video encoding and I've seen 7GB of my 8GB RAM get used up during encoding.

*Edit - changed prices to include VAT

pritchitt you used the excluding vat prices :D
what should i go for if i do primarily what the title says, and a bit of fable 3, starcraft 2 etc on high settings??? (i will be overclocking)

Edited my post to include VAT

Any CPU that has three or more cores will be good for gaming.. the video card will factor more for gaming. For encoding muscle, the more cores the better.

Since u stated primarily vid edit/render pritchett is on the right track : more cores will serve u best but since u also stated SC2, etc a GTS 450 will be fine for Full HD + Ultra no AA/AF hehe
