Only if your SATA controller is configured for AHCI or RAID.

IF ANY registry entry is unused it'll just sit there doing nothing. IF you don't need SATA then Disable it in the BIOS.

If you boot from an AHCI drive, then HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV\Start has to be set to 0.

Yeah you need the iaStorV for Intel Matrix SATA.

Best, IF Windows 7/Vista run 'Fix It' -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV

Start = 0 = AHCI and Start = 3 = IDE
