Hello,
I recently decided to build my first computer. I purchased the processor, an Intel i5 2500 from amazon.com and I bought a Gigabyte i3,i5,i7 compatible motherboard from tigerdirect.com. Once they both arrived I realized that although compatible, they were not the correct sockets. The motherboard is 1156 and the processor is 1155. Now I'm attempting to exchange my motherboard but I can't seem to find a socket 1155 motherboard for sale anywhere. What should I do?

More about : intel sandy bridge

They recalled the 1155 motherboards; you have to wait.

How long are we talking about wait wise? Any one have any idea? I am trying to build a very similar machine, but seem to be running into the possibility that it may be better just to snag a amd 956.

From everything I have read about the matter, probley late march earley april. There are some for sale if you really have to have a p67 board( possable sata II failure). Google, shopping search p67. There were also some on ebay aswell. I am also waiting for the boards to be re relesed. If you want a system to be powerfull for the next few years I would wait for the new revised mobos.

Well after reading up on the recall I'm probably going to buy one from eBay or something along those lines instead of settling for an older version of the i5 or have a $1000 paper weight for the next two months. I have read that the problem affects the Sata 3gbs ports 2 through 5 and considering I would only be using ports 0 and 1 and maybe 1 or two 6gbs sata ports it would not affect me.
If anyone has any suggestions on a 1155 port motherboard I would really appreciate the help. I am afraid I would make another mistake.

If you want SLI go for a p8p67 PRO (Asus), if not go for the normal p8p67 (once again, Asus). Should be plenty on ebay.

I think my next one will have to be a SB or Ivy based system. New egg has a special valentines day sale on the AMD 965BE for 139$ I believe. Couldn't pass that up with free shipping.

Maybe a thought?>

Thanks for all of the replies. Looks like I'll just hold out for the fixed 1155 sockets to start appearing.
Now I just hope tigerdirect is gentle on me as I try to return or exchange an open box motherboard.
