TA75m+ cant use CIR or update bios

Hello,
I am throwing together a media pc with a a8 processor and the above mentioned biostar motherboard. Everytime I have tried to activate the remote that came with the motherboard per biostar's poor instructions it fails to boot the computer. It acts like it cannot see the raid 1 i set up. I tried to update the bios via their tool and now my computer is unresponsive in windows 7. I don't know if i should just power down the computer or what.

After an hour of frozen computer i turned it off then on again. nothing appears to be broken.

I still cannot get the ir remote to work. Whenever i follow the directions my htpc fails to boot to windows and i have to pull the battery for the bios for a reset,
