What's the difference between different types of motherboards?

I never really understood motherboards. Other than the obvious different sockets, what's the difference between P67, H61, Z68, and so on...?

Read the specs sheet; it's like comparing a chevy to a cadillac. The board chipset determines what features the board has and what processors it can run. Cheaper boards = fewer features and old tech. High end boards = more features and newer tech, such as sata 3.0, which is what I use with my agility 3 ssd.
