    For $5 more you might as well get 1600 Ripjaws: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

And unless you have a need for lower power usage that Caviar Green won't perform as well as a Spinpoint: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
  3. yeah, what Zach says.... lol nothing else... pressing, if you have more money, get a SSD... here is one Mushkin SSD (60gig) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226151 ~ 129.99

so that hdd is better than the caviar green??
  5. yes
  6. Thx guys, ill get the 1600 ripjaws and that hd, ill might buy the 1tb version of the samsung spinpoint f3.
  7. thx man
  8. Just a word from someone who's done it...partition that bad boy, don't just have a single 1tb partition. Performance will suffer (is suffering for me till I finally break down and buy an SSD:)).

so i better buy the 500gb??
  10. your choice, or you can partition it, and do Dual boot....

ohhhh, ur saying that if i buy the 1tb version i should partition it???
  12. or not, I haven't.... it slows down on searches... but if you are patient, and can wait until you can buy a SSD....

thx, ill see if i can buy an SSD as a boot drive, and leave the 500gb Samsung hdd as storage, how much space do i need on an SSD to use it to install the OS?
  14. uh like 20 gigs, but I advise getting around 60, so you can put a few games on there....
  15. That's my beef with SSD's currently...I wouldn't be happy unless I had room for all my steam games, so right there I need a 256....I refuse to pay that much money for 256gb's haha. But you should be good with a 60 or better. It depends on which version of Windows you use, and how light you like to run it. If you are like me, and use ultimate and way too lazy to trim much fat, a 60 would be minimum. If you run basic (not a good idea:)) and like to trim away the fat, you might get away with a 30. All in all, I'm personally waiting till the price drops, which may be never.
  16. Mine is only 20 gigs, and I have home....
  17. From what I read, Windows 7 scales to what size hard drive you have, so the more capacity the better. I could be wrong though. Like you said, more or less for games/apps is the reason I said 60. I'm weird about hard drive space though:).
  18. *shrugs* I have it on a 1tb spinpoint....
  19. Just one question, what kind of performance issues i could have if i just buy the 500gb smsung or the 1tb??
  20. none I know of.... maybe the 1tb model will get cluttered, and slower to search, but you can just defrag it
  21. i think ill go for the 500gb thx guys
  22. np dude... you can always buy another, if needed.
  23. What atotalnoob said. That's what I have right now, just the 1tb. It started out a lot faster, but it's getting slower recently(almost a year). By slow I just mean a bit more latency between clicking a program and it actually opening. I could fix it if I wasn't lazy though, by doing a clean install and partitioning it more. In-game you won't notice much difference beyond faster loading times.
  24. yeah, what is when they say to put ur hdd in raid mode or something like that??
  25. lol.... it reminded me to Defrag.... thanks...
  26. RAID, yeah
  27. what does RAID means??? what do i have to do with the HDD?? i have no idea haha
  28. well, you can do it with any storage drive, SSD, HDD, doesn't matter...

Basically it means Redundant Array of Independant Discs.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID
  29. and how do i set uo raid, what do i have to do??
  30. Also, if that tutorial doesn't explain it enough, Google.... ftw... There are so many out there, I advise reading a few of them, also your documentation should tell you, in the MOBOs manual, and the HDDs manual...
  31. so, reading this i suppose i should use RAID 0 if im gaming right??
  32. yes... but be aware, if one fails... you lose all your data....

you can reformat... just be aware not to store valuable data on there.
  33. i was just asking haha, ill just buy the 500gb hdd thx for answering my questions man
  34. np, have fun gaming....
