Re-installed WinXP -- now no sound

i reformatted the other day and now i have no sound ive done all the updated drivers it says i have sound but i dont ive looked in the system info and it says i havce 2 processors is that right as on start up i get loads of bleeps
 
Hello, and welcome to THG.

Sounds like a bad sound card. Is the Sound card integrated to the motherboard or is it a PCI card? if you can manage to get into the OS, try to go to Desktop Manager and see what the error code is. Post it back over here.

What kind of computer is it? Perhaps the Windows disc didn't contain the sound drivers and Windows did not detect it properly during update.

It will say that you have 2 processors if you have a Pentium 4 with hyperthreading, or an Atom CPU with hyperthreading or a dual core CPU.

Post the manufacturer of your system and model number of the computer and maybe we can point you in the right direction.
