Adding a better sound card

I record my voice. I was on a Dell Dim 3000 with Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit. I just upgraded to an HP Pavilion Slimline. It has the Realtek sound card. It's horrible for recording the voice - lots of hissing and the de-hissing option takes all of the high end out of the voice.

I need to put a Sound Blaster card in the HP.

Question - does a USB card work just as well as a PCI card? I'm nervous about opening the computer to add a card.

If you only need it for voice recording, you could try the USB soundcard or even just get a USB mic.

No need to install a PCI soundcard unless the other functions of the soundcard are not good enough for you. Most internal soundcards are good enough for most any kind of playback, but not for recording. So try a USB microphone first, you can always return it if it doesn't meet your needs.
