Only 4Gb of ram in a triple-channel board?
hmmm, 6Gb needed, look for triple-channel kits 3x2Gb,
post your budget and see what people can build for that imo

Hold up -- A GTX 260 for $280?

This is ok if its a card you own, otherwise this is a TERRIBLE GPU choice for the money. Its old, outdated tech-- go with a GTX 460 instead.

November 21, 2010 7:41:46 AM

Yeah the GTX 260 is one i allready have :)
November 21, 2010 7:45:40 AM

Does that mean that they are good ? or just okay :p

That ram will do you fine man, thats what Mal meant
and the gfx cards? if your just having the one card I say find a 5870 cheap as you can, if you plan to crossfire at some point in the future go for the 6870,

I've seen it all. A quad post. And... I think with that budget, your better off waiting until the end of the year and 5 days. That's when SB comes out. And dangg.... If the prices are of the current. They will be way better for you.

November 21, 2010 12:50:55 PM

Not me,

I'll probably go 955BE when I feel I need to, but as I only play WoW, that wont be for a while, andit'll be a full new build anyway

Well there products are by no means bad. In fact with your budget I of 1000$ I'd go with an AMD build. Then spend the majority in a VGA. Also the prices should be cheap considering Intel said they were trying to enter the budget builder market. But meh.

I went from some amd 64x2 chip (3200?),
to a x3 435 on my first build that unlocked to a quad that runs at 3.5Ghz cheerfully all weekend long So for about £450 I upgraded massively and learned to build computers, if money wasn't a problem, I would consider all options but for my purposes/budget, AMD was the way to go so next upgrade will be chip, then anything after will merit a new build So I'll examine the market then for best options but thats 2-3 years away at the moment

Well... i was going for a $1000 but because of the RAM then i have to give a little more...(got no problems with that) so i think that is okay for me to buy this build and not go with an AMD build ? (I can always upgrade :S :p )?

well first of all i want to say that $1000 is okay much over here it like 5500 DKK and you can get lotz of hardware for that :p

CPU: i7 930
GPU: GTX 260 (but later i will get crossfire with ATI 6870)
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

OH I thought you were in the US XD. I get it now.

Well for the same price, you could get a modular 700w 80+ PSU as well. I love it as I have it. Plus it's practically silent. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Great case, it's on my dads build.

Umm if you can find the Spinpoint F3 1TB it's cheaper and better, least in the US.

Umm if you can wait I suggest waiting till January. That's going to have Cayman, which is 50% over the 6870, and the SB is 2x the i7's now.

well i am thinking about it... but will it be like the same ? how will the prices be ? and will it support all of my stuff ? :S ?

November 21, 2010 6:01:57 PM

What the spinpoint? Yes it will, defiantly. The SB prices should be following the current prices, since.... Intel said SB is "mid ranged" pricing oriented. Plus OCing them is SO easy, 4.9ghz on one of the preview chips. SB will be on a new chipset. Leaks are out everywhere.
November 21, 2010 6:05:01 PM

are you going to get one ? do they require a need motherboard or can i use the 1366 socket ?

November 21, 2010 6:09:55 PM

I plan to build one SB build next year around this time. So.. I'll have a job and money during the summer. SB is going to be a new socket. So yes, you'll need a new mobo, the 1366 won't work on SB since SB is 1155 and 1365 (I think that's what 1365 is) But i know 1155 is a mobo socket for sure.
November 21, 2010 6:11:24 PM

Well i can't really wait have waited like 1 year for this build.. and i am desperate for a gaming pc! :D

Well if you can't wait go ahead. I'm not going to trying to persuade you, since it IS your decision, just giving suggestions.
