I have a computer and llinksys router in a week cell area. I have been using satilite internet. I am trying to find a more economical way to have the internet and be able to check a couple of security cameras for a couple of minutes several times a week. I am wondering if there is a wireless card that would work in the area and if that could operate the router instead of the set up I have now. I get cell phone converage with a bar or two and better in some spots. I e-mailed the service I use, and they came back swith something about a cloud MIFI 2200 for three units and either blue tooth or wire fire. It was greek to me. Can anyone explain it to a novice. Thanks

Cell-based internet is not any cheaper that satellite. And from your description of the area, you will have weak speeds with some disconnects possible.

There are routers out there for cell modem service, I set some up for a company for sites with no other broadband, but they are very expensive. You need something like this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=cell+service+routers&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=946948445944357699&ei=huNuTIuZKYKKlwfE0b2gDQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=12&ved=0CFIQ8wIwCw#, then get a cell modem to plug into it.

If all you do is check on the cameras, you can probably use dial-up for that, cheapest way to go.

The MIFI 2200 is a hotspot creator for wireless that uses a cell-based service. http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phone-and-smart/verizon-wireless-mifi-2200/4505-6448_7-33658722.html
