Hello,

I have a sandy bridge cpu on an asus p6p87 pro revision 3.0 mobo.

the sata mode i have set in bios is raid mode because i have 2 drives in raid 0.

my new wd red 3tb when plugged into a 3gb/s intel sata slot shows up in the bios but not in disk management or device manager.

when i plug in the wd into a marvell controller sata port, it shows up in disk manager.

i want to figure why this happens and use an intel 3gb/s port instead of a marvell.

please help!

If the wd red is on the same controller as your raid array, then you need to use your raid manager to configure the disk. It will not show up in disk management unless the controller is set to AHCI or IDE.

If you want to use this as a single drive, you will need to configure it as a single disk RAID 0 array.

i have 2 other sata drives installed when i first built this computer and they seem to not be in a single disk raid 0 array. i dont remember what i did back then.

should i just set the sata mode to ahci and load/install drivers for it or something?

even if i did want to use this as a single drive in raid 0 array, the only way i know how is to go into the intel rapid storage technology option rom utility and the hdd isnt even listed there.

thanks for your help. i dont know what i'm doing.

Are you sure those two drives aren't on another controller. Some motherboards have two sata controllers. One usually has a raid option, the other does not. Check your motherboard manuals for information.

Ahh, I need to read better, you do have two contollers. You need to use the marvell controller for this drive. Your intel controller is set to RAID so only drives in raid configuration can run on this controller.

if only drives in raid config can run on my intel controller, how am i able to use 2 other single, non-raid drives on the intel controller? i had these 2 junk drives installed under "ide" mode and then installed my 2 raid drives under "raid mode" when i first built the comp.

the marvell controller is in ahci mode and the new wd 3tb drive works there.

i still dont understand how it is not possible to use my new wd 3tb drive on the intel controller.

please dont give up on me!

raid mode is suppose to have ahci + raid capabilities...

is the cause of all my probs the ide mode setting i used to initially install the very first 2 single, independent drives when i built my comp?

I already gave you the answer. If the controller is in RAID mode, then all drives on that controller need to be configured as RAID. Either stick your drive on the marvel controller which is set to AHCI or put the drive on the intel (raid) controller and set it up as a single drive in RAID 0 configuration. If you don't want to use a single drive in RAID 0, then you will need to configure the intel controller as AHCI and break your current 2 drive raid array.
