I have a Dell Inspiron M6500 with an almost full 150GB SSD boot drive with Win 8.

I want to upgrade to a 500GB SSD boot drive but switch back to Win 7 as I do not like Win 8. I want to keep every thing I have on the existing Win 8 boot drive on the new 500 GB SSD boot drive but want to return to Win 7, not use the existing Win 8!

Any one have specific instructions on how to do this?

"If I use a Windows 8 Upgrade disc/download to upgrade my Windows 7 computer to Windows 8, can I then use my old Windows 7 disc and product key to install Windows 7 on another computer?"

No. The Windows 8 Upgrade license replaces the previous Windows 7 (or Windows Vista or Windows XP) license.

To be clear: your old version of Windows that you upgraded from can no longer be used on your current, or any other, computer.

The only real way to do is to restore from your last win7 backup or reinstall win7 from scratch. Win8 does not make "rolling back" easy.

Thank you for your reply. Sadly, I purchased a new Laptop already preloaded with Win 8 and with a SSD boot drive that I thought would be big enough but was not!

I did not transfer my previous Win 7 based data across but started from scratch. I do not like Win 8 and I have a 500GB SSD that I can swap with the existing smaller 125GB boot drive. I have a Win 7 DVD that I can load and want to end up with Win 7 on my new boot drive with all the non-Win 8 data form the existing drive.

Not sure how to do that!
