Built computer locked up while inserting phone in USB port--loud screeching noise from speakers. Turn system off and rebooted--blank screen. LEDs, fans and USB ports all work. HDs spin. No power up beeps, but never had power up beeps in 2 years. Removed video card and used integrated graphics port. No video. Changed monitors--no video. Removed memory--no video. Disconnected everything but monitor--no videos. Can't figure out why no video. Windows 7, Intel Core Duo, Intel Motherboard

I would try to hook up a different PSU and see if you get the same result, but it sounds like a mobo issue to me. Intel doesn't exactly make the best mobos anyhow. They make good processors and SSD's. I would start shopping for a new mobo.

sounds like ur powersupply is burnt, id invest in a new powersupply, would be worth if a friend has a ps to test ur system, if it doesnt powerup might be ur mobo, or ur ps, anyways computing is trial in error in most situations,

I usually blame it on the gremlins first.

One thing i would check for is grounding issues with your case, make sure that your front panel isnt shorting anything, also inspect the board near where the USB header is, make sure nothing looks cooked near there.

That's what I suspected too, but could find no evidence. Both USB ports work. It could be an intermittent short that occurred when I tried to plug into the port. I was planning to upgrade anyway, so it looks like a new MOBO and CPU is in my immediate future. I was holding out until Sandy Bridge MOBOs back on market, but that may be another month or two.
