Its ok to put am3 cpu to am2 motherboard

Hi members, I just want your opinion because i got this motherboard REDFOX MCP6PB GF6150 with AM2 AMD Athlon64 X2 5400. I just want to upgrade my processor & put AM3 Phenom X4. Do you think its ok to put Am3 CPU to AM2 Motherbord.

It really depends on if the motherboard supports it, you will need to check the CPU support list for your board, thats a rather large upgrade though so its unlikely that your board supports it without a BIOS update if at all.

It doesnt support all of them, only up to 95W so the 955 and above are all out as are the 125W versions of the 945.

These are the highest CPUs your board will take. Do not get a CPU outside of this list, especially if it is 125/140w. Also, you will likely need a BIOS update.
