hi ,

I need to decide (and today) what SSD to take(I already bought the computer , I just need to choose the right SSD).

I can take Intel 335 180gb(~230$) or Samsung 128gb (830/840/840 pro - ~ 190$).
(There is no Samsung 180gb in that store, but they have samsung 840 250gb in 290$).

Reliability is the most important feature for me.

thank for your help !
(and sorry if I have some English mistakes :/ )

I normally recommend Samsung. Crucial, Intel, and Plextor are also worth considering.

I understand about limited availability in different regions and countries. If I could only select from the ssd's you mentioned, then I would select the Samsung 840 Pro for performance and reliability.

There is a 840pro , but only in 128gb or 256gb. and the 256gb is too much expensive.

What is so special in the pro version that you prefer only 128gb of 840pro and not 250gb of the 840?

This the first time Samsung has introduced two different series at the same time.

The 840 Pro is Samsung's high performance model. The 840 Pro was designed for gamers and enthusiasts.

The 840 is a basic entry level value model designed of ordinary everyday use. In addition, Samsung decided to use triple level cell (TLC) memory in the 840 to reduce manufacturing and consumer costs. Technical reviews of the 840 expressed concerns about how long the TLC memory will last. TLC memory cannot perform as many program erase cycles as other types of memory used in ssd's. AnandTech and Hard OCP are two sites that published reviews of the 840. The AnandTech article included a chart comparing TLC memory and MLC memory. According to the chart if a person writes and deletes 10 GB of data every day of the year, then a 256 GB ssd with TLC memory will last about 23 or 24 years. A 128GB ssd will last about 11 or 12 years. That is less than ssd's with traditional types of memory.

To be honest I do not know of anyone who writes and deletes 10 GB of data every day for many years. I think the important point to remember is that the 840 is designed for typical everyday use. It should be a very good ssd for a large majority of users.

If the SSD is 128gb , what does in mean? how much the "garbage collection" takes? I also heard that you need to left 20% free for best results.
So in the end , how much GBs I have (for me) if I take 128gb ?
