hello

i am currently using nvidia 8600gt 512 ! now time has come to throw this thing in trash can . this card hardly plays anything in 1024*768 resolution . i was wondering if hd 4570 would be smart choice for now its suits my budget moreover my system has pci-e 1.0 slot so going for top end card wont work to its maximum bottleneck.

IF possible someone upload benchmark nad performance chart for these cards . i will basically go with 1gb card this time . 512 mb is just not enough these days.

Correct me if i am wrong .Games like gta 4 just needs enough gpu memory nothing else compared to games like cod where gpu needs to be fast and responsive . 1gb memory just dont matter.

GTA 4 is a BAD coded game which is VERY CPU and MEMORY demanding, so as long as you have FAST CPU and MANY RAM (including VRAM GPU) then you can play GTA 4 with decent setting...

Even HIGH END PC will still struggle running that game.
Yes, 512MB VRAM will be enough to run gta 4 at 1024x800.
If you want to play above 1280x1024 then choose card with 1GB VRAM.

For 1280 x 1024, the GTS 250 is the best choice if you want NVIDIA, while the HD 5750
is the one you'll be getting if you want ATI.They perform the same and it would be more advisable to get the cheaper one.512 MB VRAM is enough for 1280x1024.Considering that, the GTS 250 512 MB GDDR3 might turn out to be cheaper than the 5750.Just make sure that you have a good PSU.

Hey u can get GT 240 gddr5 512 mb @ 4.5-5k(atleast dats hw itz here in kolkata) u won't need a 1gb version coz it doesn't have the power to use more memory yet gives gr8 performance and is a fabulous card for the price point. If your cpu isn't d problem, gta 4 will run swiftly with this card.

If you want a bit of more performance for higher resolution games and some good AA then u may opt for the HD 5670 1GB @ 7k

Go with HD4850! 100€ and used to be on the top. It may be a year old and doesn't have DX11. But who needs that eye-candy anyway? And ur old PSU will definitly do.

it's still possible..

Well only 2 top sub $100(<INR 5K) cards are HD 5670 768MB(in kolkata it costs much more) and GT 240 ddr5 512MB(4.5-5k).
Both of these cards run smoothly on 350W PSUs(which is not 'rockin' mayte.... ) :kaola: :D

Are you really claiming that a retail office computer would have a good psu? Can you proove that somehow, because I believe that to be highly unlikely.

Its easy to neglect the PSU, since mainstream buyers don't know a PSU from a box of candy. And even if, all they check is the wattage. Why the hell would HP want to invest into PSUs? Its not like cheaper ones are going to break the pc before the warranty is gone.

Anyway, his psu should be sufficient. And a HD4850 is really a good card. If you can find one, they are not sold in the numbers anymore. Should power most of the new games on high.

Well, it just so happens, a PSU, supplied by retail HP fried my 6800GT some time ago.
And it is true, I don't know a lot about dell units. But, does that matter? I agree with you: his psu can power the 4850.

And yeah, now he has to check some reviews, and comparations out.

Just one more thing:

I have had the same issue 2 weeks ago. My 8800Gt got fried by a bad PSU (note!), and I needed a new GPU. What I wanted was 5770, but than I deduced I needed a PSU as well, and after extensive research, the best thing for 100€ right now is 5770, used GTX2 series, used HD4 high end series. And since I needed a PSU as well, a settled for 4850. I mean, why do you need better? Games for flawlessly on my 22inch screen.

Cheers!

What you got to say about directx11 cards . i am currently using windows 7 home premium and you know this version has direct x11 . so if the gpu is also directx11 compatible will i get more performance ?

The reason i was showing kanjoosie(being miser) was because i am using old core2duo moreover as i said my mobo has pci-e 1.0 slot .
