Dell Inspiron 530s Graphics Card Upgrade

Just got a new Dell Inpsiron 530s (slim), Intel Viiv Core 2 Duo E6550 Processor (2.33GHz,1333MHz,4MB cache), 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM and built in grafix chipset. I cannot run most games with a chipset so I ordered the MSI NX 8400gs but it doesnt fully fit in the slim case. Its not the board its the two ports. Either way it didnt even have the moniter come on when I installed it despite not being able to close the case. Are there any cards that will work and have only one port so it can fit into the slim case yet still run most games?

  1. i went for a HD5570 since it will work well with the 250w power supply. im using a core 2 duo e4500 @2.2ghz and the system runs all the games ive tried at decent settings on 1280x1024.
  2. Two new cards just came out, from ATI and Nvidia. They are 40nm gpu's so run cooler and are more energy efficient than prior models. They both come with adapter plates for slim cases.
If you have a 300 watt psu, you might risk it. Nvidia recommends a 400 watt.
If you have a 250 watt psu, I would not risk putting a gpu that requires 80+ watts at times.

edit: The cards I mentioned would be for max performance , but not a good idea if you can't power them. They both need a extra 6 pci-e connector.
As mentioned above there are models like the 5570 that do not need extra power.
