Confused about upgrade...

Hello everyone,

First of all, here's my current rig specs:

-EVGA X58 SLI LE ATX LGA1366 DDR3 Mobo

-Intel Core i7 920 Quad Core 2.66GHZ Bloomfield 8MB

-6x2GB G.Skill F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24

-Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24Pin ATX PSU

-XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB



Now, i would like to upgrade my video card, but i noticed that recent video cards are PCI-Express 2.1, I'm looking at something like a Radeon HD 6870 or something around that range.

If i look at the specs of my Mobo, it says PCi-Express 2.0, would a 6870 (PCI-Express 2.1) work with it? Or am i doomed and i need a new rig?

PCI 2.1 works in PCI 2.0 slot but you may need a BIOS update.

@ NuCl34R - PCI Express 2.1 supports a large proportion of the management, support, and troubleshooting systems planned to be fully implemented in PCI Express 3.0. However, the speed is the same as PCI Express 2.0 so you won't loose anything in performance!

Go to the top of this page and on the right hand side you will see a box that says "Ask the community now". Click on the Message title and put in something like - help with motherboard parts - of something like that. Then go down to the next box where it says "Hello" and type in your question. You can use the same question you started with here if you want. The title decides where it goes in the forum - like memory or motherboards depending on what you put up there.
