Can i get a nvidia graphics card to work on a ati motherboard,

i just got a nvidia GeForce 8400GS DDR2 and i haven been trying to install it on my POS eMachines computer and it is not working, now my computer has a ATI Radeon Xpress 200 in which i belive is a integrated graphics card
now the only reason i am switching to this nvidia instead of my ATI is because the ati has been taking from my RAM and i am using this computer for gaming, so stealing from my RAM is a no no for me.
if any of you can give me some tips it would b much appreciated

Well, chances are that it's not taking enough of your ram to make much of a difference, but the 8400 would be worth switching to anyway. Can you list your computer specs?

That's normal since onboard graphic is take some amount memory from RAM system, that's why your RAM memory is "decrease".
Yes, 8400GS is a weak card but better than Xpress 200.

intel celeron d 3.33ghz, 2gb of ddr1 Ram, 160gb harddrive, ACPI uniprocessor

thats all i can get from it, parents got this computer as a family computer and it kinda became mine not that long ago
