What components can I buy for SandyBridge NOW

Forum Systems : New Build What components can I buy for SandyBridge NOW

Word :    Username :

Hello Again Friends,

Question:
With the Thanksgiving sale (Black Friday) coming up, I want to purchase components at discounted price. I was convinced that I should wait till Jan 5th for Sandy Bridge to be released, and have given into that school of thought.

However, I still want to take advantage of the sale going on currently on sites like New Egg. So my question is, what components would you recommend that I can buy from NOW in anticipation of the new processors being released next year.

My wish list:

A very good Monitor (wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for real quality here)
Speakers (again, going for a gaming/multimedia build so need good speakers)
SSD (I don't know if I can buy these just yet...or should I?)
OS (Should I buy Windows 7 now? Or can I just wait for this one?)
Case (Again, what should I do?)
Power Supply
RAM

Please advise me as to what components I can/SHOULD buy now in order to take advantage of the sales!

Thanks

Everything but mobo/ram/cpu.
lga 1156 CPU Coolers will also fit the lga 1155 because they use the same mounting holes.

Any specific suggestions?

Especially for speakers/mouse/keyboard/monitor/ssd

I'm in the same position as you actually. Here's what I've found so far:

Windows 7 64-bit OEM (Home Premium and Professional) is on sale on Newegg. Since you have to buy the OS anyway, you might as well get it cheaper now (I sure am). Home Premium was $100 and is now $85 while Professional went from $140 to $120.

Watch for sales on the "SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive" as it is the best 1TB HDD. Newegg had them at $55 (instead of $70) for a couple days and I know there's other places that have them on sale, too or at least at a lower price than Newegg's regular price. I ordered one myself.

Everything else I'm still unsure about. None of the deals on Newegg seemed very "must buy" to me. I'm not sure if they change their deals tomorrow or not for the actual Black Friday but it doesn't appear that way from the way they worded their current sales.

I'm in same place as y'all

Buying CM 212+ now

May buy Win 7 for $85

Looking for the CM 690ii case to go on sale

Already bought Antec EA380 PSU

Almost bought some RAM but I think some of you have successfully convinced me I should wait to make sure it works right with SB....

Will also watch for a Samsung or Caviar Black 1tb drive

Reply to hogan773

You can buy (as vindictive mentions) everything but CPU/mobo/RAM. You could probably buy RAM as well, but it's probably better to hold off. However, unless you're getting a great deal on something (more than $5-10 off), I'm not sure I'd bother, as by the time Sandy Bridge comes out, you may already be past the newegg RMA deadline, making it a little more annoying to return a part that doesn't work right.

The Seagate 7200.12 1 TB has similar performance to the Spinpoint F3 and is currently $50 (normally same price as the Spinpoint).

The G.Skill Phoenix Pro 120 GB is currently on sale for $187, about $50 off its normal price. This uses the SF-1200 controller, the best buy on the market right now.

^ exactly what I was gonna say after looking around.
I went ahead and bought 8GB of ram for $89! (60-day return on it) if it runs in triple or quad mode i'll just buy 1 or 2 more sticks.
and that seagate for $50.(got this too) (60 day return)

I'm also getting the CM 690 II advanced, but I can't get anything big. (reason: I'm out of the country till X-mas eve so my Grandmother is getting all this from my P.O. Box and she won't be able to carry the case LMAO)

Anyone know if the Mushkin Silverline is comparable to Ripjaws? Good px at $80. Might take the risk.

I am going with the Cooler Master 690 ii case.....waiting for it to go on sale.....hoping I'll see that happen on Cyber Monday.

Also I see that WD drives are on BF sale, so I'm hoping they put the Samsung Spinpoints on sale on Cyber Monday.

Reply to hogan773

Cooler Master 690 ii is on sale for $80 on amazon. Normally $100 if that is the one you are looking for.

@thebu1ld - Do you already know how many watts for the PSU? As for brands, I always hear Sea Sonic and Corsair are great. Sea Sonic is supposed to be the best right now. There are good Antecs too. I'm no PSU expert, but those are some brands to look for, especially the first two. They do seem a bit more expensive to me, but that's probably for good reason.

Reply to helpme3948

Antec, Seasonic, Corsair, and XFX black editions.

I just realised there's no gpu's listed/talked about?
If you give me a budget or what your wanting to spend on a gpu I'll advise you on the best options.

If I get that on Cyber Monday I'll jump on it!

Reply to hogan773

I have no idea about what GPU to get nor do I have any idea about what wattage I should get, but I'm looking at a system worth around $1500, with monitors and everything. So I'm thinking 750W should be more than sufficient.

Can you please look at my shopping list thus far and offer your critique?

Cooler Master Storm Scout - $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product (or CM690 II Advanced, cost the same both are great, basically red/blue handles or no.)

You, I, everyone has the power to check combos on Newegg....just click on "combos" attached to your chosen product

As you saw above, they have GSkill Ripjaws 8gb for $89, and also Mushkin for $80 but it has a rebate. I chose not to go with rebate just in case something isnt compatible with SandyBridge, although any DDR3 RAM that is currently compatible with socket 1156 boards should work on the 1155. There is also 4gb Skill for $49, and this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820146748

for $39.99. Also a Mushkin Blackline for $5 more.

All those seem like pretty cheap memory options to me at least.

Reply to hogan773

The 8gb G.Skill is no longer on sale...

What about this for the PSU though?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817171036

It's only 600W however, will that be enough? I will not be upgrading to SLI.

Yes it is....at least the 1333 Gskill is....for $89. Its their BF sale thru tomorrow.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

PSU looks nice.....I went for the Antec 380D which was only $24.99 AR, but I'm not a gamer so there is little chance I'll need more than 380 watts as I won't be doing double GPUs, etc. May even just use SandyBridge integrated graphics......

Reply to hogan773

^600W is good, you need prob a 500W at least (so stay with 600W) if you stay with the gtx 470

uggghhh

The Newegg Cyber Monday sale seems really lame vs their BF sale.

I guess I'll just have to wait and watch for more deals coming on the everyday deals schedules......

Reply to hogan773

Yeah...I'm really regretting not jumping on some of the deals that were available on Friday...any special deals out there today that I'm missing out on?

Yeah like I said, the Newegg sale seems comparatively lame. I actually woke up briefly at 2:30am to see if there were any "super awesome email blast deals" like there were on Friday morning, and which I almost missed cause they sold out. There were none. The sale items seem lame. Took me almost an hour to get back to sleep. I'm a fool :ouch:

I picked up the CM 212+ and the GSkill 8gb memory set over the weekend. I held off on the Windows 7 OEM at $84.99......it SEEMS that they often have combo deals with motherboards, so hopefully when its time to get the SB mobo I can effectively get at least $15.00 off the Windows price at that time.....

Still looking for my case and for a hard drive.

Actually come to think of it, SuperBiiz does have the Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB right now for about $50 with a coupon code. Seems a good price. I am hemming and hawing though as I've never used SuperBiiz and there are some poor reviews of its customer svc vs Newegg. I may let it pass and hope that Newegg brings a similar discount on Samsungs sometime in the next few weeks. But I figured I'd point it out to you.

Reply to hogan773

I went ahead and bought the cooler master storm scout, $30 off.

I have everything I need for now, but waiting for a deal on SSD (without a rebate)

I posted in a separate thread but just picked up Win7 OEM for 74.98 plus it includes a Coolermaster 80mm fan.....maybe I can use the fan or otherwise Ebay it for a few bucks. Either way I thought $75 is probably on the lower end of pricing for Win7

Reply to hogan773

just been looking though your guys' post and am doing the same thing as you all. Just was wondering if anyone had any guesses on how much a SB and a lga 1155 Mobo would cost???

also i just bought the storm scout for 59.99 and the 8gb G.Skill on Newegg great deals!!

Reply to peteypablo319

There are a bunch of threads/posts with a "leaked" pricing chart for SB....just do a search here. Basically 200-216 for the 2500 and 300-317 for the 2600. Both seem reasonable to me.

I haven't seen anything on mobo pricing yet, but it appears there will be LOTS of mobos coming out (which is good for competition) and from what people say, there isn't a lot of "new cutting edge" tech on them.....similar to LGA 1156 just a little different.

I'm hoping therefore they'll be similarly priced to current mainstream offerings, hopefully in the 100-150 range for a decent board.

Reply to hogan773

I bought that storm scout for $60 as well and 8GB of ripjaw ddr3 1333 for $90.

and I can't find mobo pricing anywhere, my guess would be anywhere from $200-$300.
