If I were to buy it right now,

Excluding all factors - based solely on performance, what would the best one on the market be?

Solution
The 480m is significantly more powerful than the 460m, and sli means two of them, so yes, it is much, much more powerful. The ram type is not the most important part; The number of processing cores(cuda/simd cores) and clock speed is.

I know Eurocom has a 480m SLI laptop, which is the most powerful.
The only crossfiref mobility 5870 laptop I know of is the Alienware (ugh) M17x, but it's a total ripoff as with all alienware computers.
EDIT: Eurocom has 5870 cf too.

None of those seem to have a better card than the GTX 460m which has GDDR5

I just wanted to know, to make sure I was getting the best card in for my range.

I need a laptop for under $1800. So far I have found three that I can work with that include the nVidia GTX 460M

Here's what I have found:

Sager NP 8690

Asus G53JW-A1

Asus G73JW-A1
