How many graphics card can you have?

Sorry if this sounds dumb but i'm a newbie about upgrading computers.

so i have ATI Radeon 4200 HD and got Available Expansion Slots of 1 PCI Express x16, 3 PCI Express x1.

so if i can have more than graphics card what would you recommend?

my processor is an AMD Athlon™ II with 4gb ram.

budget probably under $100-$200

i dont know how many watts my psu have though.

thanks in advance.

More about graphics card have
  1. You have a PCIeX16 slot, so you can have a dedicated card replacing the 4200.

What is your CPU and what do you plan to do with a GPU?
  2. my cpu is an HP Pavilion p6510y

    AMD Athlon™ II
    4GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 4200
Available Expansion Slots 1 PCI Express x16, 3 PCI Express x1
    Drive Capacity 750GB

ugh probably gaming and some hd movies.

    thanks for the quick reply.
  3. Whats your price range + PSU power?
  4. What type of gaming (like what games?). Hard to decide without knowing that but as a general suggestion I would recommend a HD5770 with a CX430, comes out to be $146AR

Your current set-up should already playback HD just fine however,
  5. The 5770 is a great card by the way.

His system comes with a stock 250W IIRC.
  7. like HoN, LoL SC2.. so if im going to buy that card how much watts of the PSU do i need?

    like 600w?

and if i got like $500 budget what card would you recommend?

so fast replies i love it!
    thanks for helping me!

    what about my processor?
  8. Its not very demanding them. SC2 can be maxed out on 1080P+ using a GTX460. What is your monitors resolution? Tell us the model if you don't know.

But I think you will be pretty satisfied with the 5770 above with the 430W PSU.

On the PSU, for GTX460, HD5850 and below a 430W+ from Corsair, Antec, Enermax, OCZ, SIlverstone, Seasonic, XFX would be fine.

With $500 though, I would upgrade the CPU also. Something like these:
    955BE for $150
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808
    550VX for $54
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004&Tpk=550VX
    GTX460 for $175
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127512&cm_re=GTX_460_cyclone-_-14-127-512-_-Product

You'll still have $150 leftover, enough for a custom case and Mobo.
  9. i got an LG Flatron w2040t 20 inch the recommended reso is 1600x900.

so 5770 and 430W PSU would do it the job?

what if i get GTX460 and a 430W? thats better than the above right?

Yes, but you wont see much of a difference. The HD5770 is perfectly adequate for 1600*900 and the games you play.

Are you in a hurry for a new GPU? If you can wait until November. Bunches of new cards will come out and current cards will probably see a price cut oror be on sale.
  11. ah i see.. ill wait for november then.. thank you so much for the help! i really appreciate it!

    three more question though.

    theres an available expansions right?

does that mean u can have more than one gpu card?

and whats the difference of PCIe x1 and PCIe x16?

PCIe X16 is the slot for graphic cards, so in your case you have one, meaning you could put one dedicated card in there.

PCIe X1 is a slot for sound cards, networking cards aetc, it wont fir a GPU.
  13. To answer power questions I have a OCed 5770 and a Phenom II OCed on a 400watt Corsair. I can run Prime 95 and Frumark and still have like 100watts left over.
