I'm not an expert, but I'm better than most. My first tip is to
practice a lot with the gun, even at times when other weapons are
clearly better.

In my case I've found that playing in low-grav maps, especially plunge
and morpheous, has helped. The aiming is easier when people are
floating slowly through space, but the more you do it, the faster you
get at it.

If you're sniping from a distance with the zoom, and the target is
moving, you can roughly gauge how much lag there is by how much you miss
by. So if the first couple miss, you can have a good guess at how much
to lead your target by. And aim for the head for one-shot kills!

In a deathmatch type of 1 on 1 battle, I've found that I do better by
aiming and firing by instinct rather than trying to place my sight on
the target. Maybe that 'instinct' is more luck, I don't know. Its
perhaps a combination of luck and experience.

I guess practise is what it boils down to.. practise being quick with
the zoom, and practise in DM-style battles with the lightning gun and
shock rifle. I was doing just this in a private server with 3 good
players a couple of nights ago. Good fun!
