Hi ,

Say we have 2 different nVidia cards ( A & B )

If "A" performance is higher than "B" Performance !!

Is it necessary that "2xA SLI" Performance would be higher than "2xB SLI" Performance ??

Thanks

Strictly speaking, no its not necessary. I suppose driver issues and more could get in the way if two cards were close enough in performance.

But its also possible you can suffocate because all the oxygen has rushed to one corner of the room.

Yes. If A performs faster then B, then in SLI 2xA should still be faster then 2xB.

As the GTX460 and 5850 show, this doesn't work when comparing SLI to CF. The 5850 is a faster card then the GTX460, but when you double them the GTX460 in SLI wins out. This is because SLI scales better then CF does.
