Will a Samsung 840 500 GB SSD devalue quickly in the coming years? Right now, I have a Samsung RF511-S02, which has a 500GB 5400RPM Hard Drive. Obviously, my laptop is held back quite a bit by its slowness. I did some research and found the Samsung 840 500GB SSD, which, priced at $336.53, is a good buy. However, my parents are probably going to get me a Macbook Pro next year, which most likely will come with an SSD. Sadly, when I contacted Apple, they told me that they would never ship one of their laptops without an HDD.
So, should I go for the Samsung 840 now, or should I just bear my 5400RPM HDD for a while?
Btw, I plan to be replacing my optical drive with the 840.

Last Friday newegg.com had the Samsung 840 SATA 3 6Gb/s 500GB internal solid state drive on sale for $279.99. That works out to just a little under $0.56 USD per GB. The sale was for one day only and you had to use a coupon code.

Typically sale prices run on a 6 week cycle.

Special sale prices should drop down to around $0.50 USD per GB at the end of the year.

All Apple MacBook Pro's come with a 500GB hard disk drive as standard. Larger capacity hard disk drives up to 1TB as well as 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB solid-state drives are options which a customer can select when ordering. The information is readily available at the Apple web site or Apple online store.

The best place to check for sales, daily deals, and special promotions is over at LogicBuy. That's how I found out about the special at newegg.com. LogicBuy has a separate page for hard drives and ssd's. Here is the link:

It pays to be patient and check prices twice a day. The special promotions are usually for one day only. Sometimes they sell out very quickly.

I expect the sale prices for a 500 GB solid state drive equipped with triple level cell (TLC) memory to drop to $259.99 but not until the end of the year.

Within the past few weeks Plextor, Lite-On, and Micron which is the parent company of Crucial announced they would be introducing ssd's with TLC memory.
