While Dell has its fair share of supporters and detractors, I've never
heard anyone say anything good about Sony's support.
They look great, perform well, but when they break (or you need parts),
look out!

Everyone slams Sony support. But I have had very good support recently
with Sony. Tech support over the phone right on target and a
replacement part mailed overnight. On the other hand, if you are past
the time limit for free support, there isn't much there.

The thing is, their laptops are full of parts that you can't get anywhere
but Sony, so if Sony stops talking to you...

Another problem with Sonys... It seems that every year a new model
replaces last years model.

I see that as an advantage. That means one can get perfectly good
last-year machines for reasonable$, bypassing your
chase-the-latest&greatest Joneses.

I am guessing that's 'cuz the dealers haven't found many broken new
models yet. Hopefully by the time u will need parts for your
latest&greatest, they will become available.

Or one can find a dead one on ebay.

Personally I prefer things that work to things that are "cool".

Actually parts are not that hard to find. But after the free support
period, they won't answer questions. But they still will accept your
computer for service. I have never accepted their offer. Just something
about shipping a computer to a service center and hoping the cost won't
be excessive that troubles me.
