I've bought 2 replacement batteries for my ThinkPad A31 from Power Express.
The first completely failed after a few months, and the second (free
replacement) came with instructions to "condition" it by deep cycling it 5
times. It came with an initial health capacity of 38 WH (and the IBM
battery it replaced had one of 43WH), and after the 5 cycles, it's now down
to 29WH. No answer from them when I ask about these batteries failing so
quickly.
The temp in the battery has never exceeded 26C when charging or operating.
They list the manufacturer as "PS" and the model as "IBM compatible".
Anyone else have a suggestion for quality ThinkPad batteries (other than
IBM, who want almost $300 for one!).

Li-Ion batteries should not be cycled. It sounds like the battery you
replaced was a Ni-Mh battery and the new one is LI-ION. Ni-MH is 4.5 AH and
Li-Ion is 3.6 AH. Some of these sites put the wrong part number on the
battery type. ....

Thanks for the response; but, the battery health and information utility for
the original, and the replacements, have all shown the chemistry to be
li-ion.
The original shows a design capacity of 43 Wh, while these replacements show
a design capacity of only 38 Wh. That in itself is a troubling difference,
but both of the replacements are degrading at an extraordinary rate. The
first use date by the way also is only a couple of months ago, and the cycle
count was 0, so, if it was a reconditioned battery then they had some way of
resetting the info on board.

SAYS "NIB031" and then it goes on to say "replaces ..." a long list of
battery model numbers, including the one I'm interested in, 02k6897
Does this help?
It

No Five-Stars Enterprises? Dragon Power? Made in China?
