Will we ever see hardware advanced enough for virtual reality at home?

I think virtual reality would be the most immersive way to game. Immersion is why we game to begin with, isn't it?

But will the technology ever be available in the next 10...15... or 25 years and would it ever be cheap enough to have in the home of the average consumer?
