I3 540 vs athlon 2 x4 640

I'm building a new pc for my uncle and cousins.The things they will be doing will be mostly light gaming(some sc2,warcraft 3,some call of duty and source engine games),media(watching dvds on a 42 inch tv) and perhaps a bit of video encoding to change the formats of the movies.I believe both cpus are great for these tasks but I'm not sure which to choose.Here are their pros and cons as I see them:
i3 540
Pros
Faster at almost everything than the athlon 2 x4
Highly overclockable
Cool running
IGP in case their gpu dies
Cons
Not as good at multithreaded apps(although that can be compensated by ocing)
Not great at encoding
Worse multitasker than the athlon

Athlon 2 x4 640
Pros
Better multitasker than the i3
Better at multithreaded apps
Cons
Slower at most apps
Not as higly overclockable
no IGP

The i3's pros are more but it's cons are enough to make me reconsider choosing it.Still I am not quite sure the athlon 2 x4 is worth over the 32nm clarkdale.What are your thoughts on this?

personally i would take the i3 but the athlon x4 quad is on newegg for a cheaper price and is worth considering
