PC shut off and wont turn on with video card installed

I was playing Darksiders when my pc suddenly turned off. Now my pc wont power back on unless I unplug the psu from the video card. My pc powers on with the card still in the pci-e slot as long as the psu cables are not connected to the card, however I cannot use my pc like this of course. My question is did my video card die, or is the problem my psu?

If it helps heres my specs:

sapphire ati radeon 4850 x2
PC Power and Cooling S75CF 750W
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale @ 4.00ghz
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard

Running windows 7 64 bit ultimate edition.

Take the card out and test it in some other pc.

Not an option I don't know anyone with a pci-e slot. Is there any other way of knowing?

Nothing is displayed on the monitor when I disconnect the power cable and there are 3 red leds on the video card.

As mousemonkey pointed out, red led means bad card. You probably wrecked your card somehow.

If the card has gone bad then why OP's system doesnot boot with power connectors are connected to the card and only boots when power connector are removed.Your psu could also be the culprit.

If the card has shorted out then connecting the extra power lines might be what causes the short to shut the machine down.

I think the 3 leds are there because the psu is not connected to the card.
