$300 Budget Build

Out of sheer lack of desire to deal with pre-made Dell machines, I was wondering about the possibility of working with a new Budget build for the casual (An Aunt who web surfs + word processes).

In my search of Barebone kits, I stumbled upon one that's on sale as of currently:

Now, i'm more biased towards Intel builds, but that's out of sheer history. Are there any other recommendations out there that would offer a "Complete" build w/o the operating system? (That's taken cared of)

I built a variation** of this for my wife - amazingly fast and cool:

Intel Core i3-530 $100

ECS H55H-I LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI Mini ITX $60 after $10 MIR

Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR3 1333 $36:

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB $55
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

SAMSUNG Black 8X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 6X DVD+R DL 8X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 8X DVD-ROM 24X CD-R 4X CD-RW 24X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA CD/DVD Burner $30
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

COOLER MASTER Elite 100 RC-100-KKP3-GP Black Steel / Plastic MITX/MATX Slim Case Computer Case Flex ATX 150W, Active PFC Power Supply $60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The case is VERY small. It can be attached to the back of a monitor whose stand does not use the VESA attachment on the rear of the panel, creating an "All-in-one". Or it can be put underneath the monitor without being noticed because it is only 2.7" high. or it can be stood on its side alongside the monitor. It runs cool and very quiet.

Grandma needs nothing more :)

The total is about $40 over your budget, though some money can be saved on the HD.

** The variation I used: an SSD, 4GB memory, and the Gigabyte minITX motherboard.

a note on the Tiger Direct build: The CPU dates from between Nov 2007 and March 2008. 3-4 year old design. Hot, slow. The i3-530 in twoboxer's build and the Athlon II X2 250 in my build are both an order of magnatude faster

Thanks for the note! Though, the big question that really bothers me in this situation is the fact that for California recipients like myself, tax is a real deal killer.

I'll definitely look into this and do a little research here and there.

Move. Or tell your friends to stop asking the government to do stuff :)

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

Haha, gotta make do with what ya' got I suppose.

Also, this was a bit of a tougher choice, but after a quick look:

http://en.inpai.com.cn/doc/enshowcont.asp?id=7479&pagei...

i3 vs the amd's x3

The tri beats it in every way, at least in terms of performance.

But also said was the fact that the i3 is the pure performance per watt winner here.

Tough choice considering your build and Batuchka's recommendation.

What a wonderful concept! If we all did that, taxes would be low ;)
